Kinda made me laugh. Jules got mad when the possible ceo said it was a "chick site" but not too long after she said she knew her idea had a chance because there is a huge potential in selling to women with a glass of wine and a laptop. So basically she is admitting it is a "chick site." Why is that so offensive to her? Me being a man, if I created a website that sold primarily to men, I would not care if it was labeled a "guy site." It seems like her being offended by him labeling it that is a little ridiculous.

Well, there is a difference is how 'guy things' and 'chick things' are used linguistically.

With 'chick things', there is an undertone of inferiority and condescension of whatever is marketed specifically at women. Whatever women watch/consume is still considered lower on the social hierarchy than whatever men watch/consume because 'male' is still the social default.

Except if you belong to a gender. Then you might favour things that are aimed at your gender over things that are not.

you are projecting. women are fragile little flowers when it comes to their ego and those broads don't like to be referred to as "chicks".

My wife runs a chick site, selling things that mostly appeal to women. I asked her if it was a chick site, and she said yes. I asked her if she thought that was offensive. She said no.

Imagine that you apply for a job at macdonals: when you go to the interview and someone asks you "what is MacDonalds" and you say: "It's just another fast food restaurant" you probably won't get the job, will you? Now imagine the future CEO of a company saying this (chick site) about the company he's going to manage

You make a good point; however, I think the movie used the phrase 'chick site' to imply the gender connotations associated with it rather than the generality of it, hence the use of the word 'chick'.

It wasn't offensive between you and your wife. But at a job interview... which is the case in the movie... an insensitive choice of words spoken to the businesswoman that created the operation.

Her site sold clothing, so it may not have sold primarily to women but also to men, as well. Maybe the possible-CEO wasn't aware of who the site mostly sold to, and just referred to it as a "chick site" because all he knew was that is sold clothes. Would've been ignorance on his part.

Who knows.

Its the paradoxical hypocrisy of identity politics. They get upset if you stereotype them, but at the same time, they fiercely identify with their own specific "oppressed" minority group.

They being the PC obsessed youth of today. I weep for their future.
