The Netflix-Marvel Partnership Just Keeps Going Downhill
It started out great with the first season of Daredevil, which totally redeemed the character after the decent-but-campy Fox movie. Then the first season of Jessica Jones arrived and delivered what was possibly the best thing Marvel Studios had ever made. It had perfect casting, a great villain, a cool and charismatic lead, a dark, noirish story, etc.
Luke Cage was a decent show but not nearly as entertaining as as Daredevil or JJ. I didn't even bother watching Iron Fist or The Defenders because of their mediocre reviews, but I'm sure I didn't miss out on much
Daredevil Season 2 was solid, but definitely not as good as Season 1. The ninja villains were totally forgettable, unlike Wilson Fisk.
The Punisher season 1 was also just ok. The subplot with the lady detective was unnecessary and the show was just not as violent and gritty as it should have been. Both seasons of Daredevil were far darker than this show, which is ridiculous considering that this is supposed to about the freaking Punisher
And now season 2 of Jessica Jones. If it was a stand-alone show and not a follow-up to JJ season 1 then it would be just another decent tv show. But since it IS following up JJ season 1 it is just so disappointing by comparison. there was no real threat in the whole series. tons of annoying side characters. Jessica went from being a badass to being a whiny emo brat. it had some good moments, but overall it was very clear the absence of David Tennant left a big hole that could not be filled. Really, Jeri Hogarth was the only character I liked in this season
Overall, I feel like Netflix has totally missed the point about what made the first seasons of Daredevil and Jessica Jones so appealing. instead of focusing on the small-scale crime drama, noir aspect that felt so fresh, they expanded on the soap opera-ish supporting character subplots
