What was the point of the vaccine subplot?

I thought it was going to go somewhere, but it seems like it went nowhere. I thought it might have worked on his dad, because his dad hesitated and then smiled when he told him what to do. But then NOTHING else was mentioned about the vaccine. It either didn't work, or it stopped working, because Kilgrave was able to get his dad to make him stronger.

It didn't work - at all. It failed. That was the point of the subplot. They tried to use science to defeat him and it didn't work. In fact it backfired since it essentially led to Kilgrave using his dad to amplify his powers.

The only thing that was able to stop Kilgrave was his logical weakness: the one person he could never control directly.
