Why is this show getting the short end of the stick from Netflix?

I actually liked this show better than Daredevil, but it seems like Netflix doesn't really care about it. They had the first season of Daredevil, then the first season of Jessica Jones. Then they made a second season of Daredevil, then Luke Cage, now they're planning on having both The Defenders and Iron Fist next year, then probably a third season of Daredevil before the second season of Jessica Jones is ready. Plus now they're said to be working on a Punisher series and I wouldn't be surprised if they gave that priority over another season of Jessica Jones. 

Personally, I think it's too soon for The Defenders. While all the individual characters will be in it, by virtue of being an ensemble show, none of them will really get the attention that they deserve. They can't really dwell on the aftermath of the things that happened in each character's series. I mean, Jessica has to deal with the fact that she killed Kilgrave, Karen has to deal with suddenly knowing that Matt is Daredevil, and Luke is in prison. They're going to have to sort of rush each one so that they can get to the main story line. I can't really see them opening up with Matt and Karen in the office right after he tells her, which means that we probably won't get to see her full reaction to the news. I suppose they could put it later in the series, or in the first episode, but that would feel a little disjointed. People tend to view a show as happening in chronological order, so by showing other stuff first, then cutting to the office scene, it would seem like Matt and Karen have been standing there staring at each other while all the other stuff was going on, which would be weird.

Unless they pull a dick move and just ignore the events of each series and treat The Defenders as a stand-alone story, which would suck.

I don't think there's a stick here.

The original plan was one of each leading up to the Defenders 8-episode "event". Then see what happens.

DD was such a hit they jumped to do DD2 and use it to introduce Punisher who has potential to carry his own show/film. JJ did well enough that they know they'll do more of her solo show as well.

But they have to finish their breakfast at some point.

They will find a way to "park" any stories they don't address. Defenders will happen in chronological order to the others.

I don't think it will ignore events in the other shows but it will be sort of a stand alone story I'm sure. Something that impacts all four but not using the core of any of the four shows (i.e. I don't think it will be Defenders vs. Kingpin or Defenders vs. Kilgrave's children etc.)

I just read a few articles about the plot of S2, so its definitely been written and is happening, but OT airing until 2018(!!!) 😭

I got the impression they were in the process of shooting it or at least in preproduction, so I'm guessing they'll shoot it after they finish shooting Defenders, if they aren't shooting concurrently. From what I gathered, there's going to be a lot of Trish/Will stuff happening, maybe a Hellcat arc. Definitely the mystery of Jessica's power origins will come back.

Google and you'll find a bunch of articles about it.

It's just that Marvel has a lot coming out, JJ season 2 happening in 2018 is not that bad since they do about 2 shows per year and JJ came out late 2015 but theres also the fact they had to wait for a "green light" on making a season 2. LC just got the "green light" because they are starting to know "ok our tv shows are kicking ass like our movies", JJ was only the second show for Marvel on netflix so they had to "wait and see" how the numbers were and how people felt.

Marvel did the same "slow start" with the movies but they picked up steam when they saw "ok this is working kick it into over drive", they had to test the waters for Netflix just as they tested the waters for the movies.

I make a bet that JJ, DD, and LC are all in 2018 for the next seasons as they now know they have the small screen on lockdown as well.

They've got three shows lined up for 2017: Iron Fist, The Defenders, and The Punisher. The Defenders and The Punisher are filming concurrently. I think Krysten Ritter has said that filming for Jessica Jones season 2 will start as soon as The Defenders concludes filming. If this is the pace things are going at, I'd say that Daredevil season 3 is probably already in the early stages of pre-production.

I don't think it is getting the short end of the stick. It isn't as good of a show as Daredevil. Not even close, and it is a much much slower show with less excitement so casual fans aren't jumping on it.

It is getting a season 2 and Jessica Jones will be featured in The Defenders. It isn't like they are cancelling it, it just isn't an exciting show to promote and feature the hell out of.

Yes, they're making a second season, AFTER they introduce all the other second-string characters, and have their own mini-Avengers show.

I hadn't even heard of Jessica Jones before the show, but I'd also never heard of Luke Cage or Iron Fist before either. Yet they're promoting these characters like they're huge fan-favorites. I realize that Daredevil is Netflix's darling superhero show, but it will have three seasons before Jessica Jones even gets a second one. I'll watch the second season, but knowing the average viewer, they'll probably have forgotten all about it by the time the second season eventually gets released. People lose interest when there's a year between seasons and they're waiting three years.

Personally, I've watched all the shows and so far Jessica Jones was my favorite. I thought Daredevil season 1 dragged too much and I wasn't crazy about the whole ninja plot from the second. Luke Cage was OK, but it was hard to get too excited when the villains were so lame. If Cage hadn't been so much of a wuss, he could have ended the whole conflict in one night.
