I am enjoying the early episodes much more now, it is much easier to watch when you know what is going on. It was hard to feel sympathy for Jessica until you know what she had been through before, she just comes off as whiney until then
I think for this show more than most the people who didn't like it had expectations going in. They either were thinking it would be just like Daredevil or were simply expecting a cookie-cutter super hero trope.
Some people either managed their expectations better or were able to keep an open mind, others were set on what they expected and couldn't reconcile it. (And others simply didn't like it - it's not for everyone.)
I think if it were a film it could have been different. There would have been teasers and trailers that would have outlined the tone a bit more clearly. But as a Netflix show it gets a different form of promotion.
But yeah, I think many people would enjoy it on second viewing since they'd know better what to expect (and what not to expect).

If this would have been season 2, I don't think it would get a lot of the criticism it gets, I know most of it comes from people who just hate anything staring a woman, and you can't do anything about that. Season 1 should have started with Jessica trying to be a hero in the first couple episodes, then haveing her caught be Kilgrave, becoming his slave, and the fight with Daredevil, the final should have been her becoming a murderer and escaping.

It's the same sort of people who would hate on Karen. Gosh, the hatred for Karen Page over in the Daredevil pages seems to heavily root down to "I don't know why, but I just don't like her."

Yeah this show does suffer from several things like that. Though for every fan that hates the show just because it stars a woman or has other female characters, there's probably someone who gave the show a shot for the same reason. Maybe not 1:1 I guess.
I liked the way they told her story but I can see how a more direct tie in to Daredevil might have worked too. But I think it's better they let the show stand on its own rather than toss DD in there. I can picture all the posts then "DD should have been it more!"
