Watching Luke Cage made me long for this show

It's not about men, women, black, white, action, no action. It's about character and writing and Luke Cage is poorly written. The dialogue is literally making me shudder.

Thanks for saving me from wasting precious time! Overall I loved the actor that played Luke Cage in Jessica Jones but the character doesn't look capable to hold his own series.

reply

Luke Cage was a good show, it had it's drawbacks like JJ did but still good. dialogue is fine.

I had a hard time finishing Jessica Jones as it is, it got way better at the 8th episode and beyond. Is Luke Cage similar or better than Jessica Jones?

reply

Luke cage can be a little hard to follow, lots of accents, but it's *beep* great, since Luke can't be hurt the fight scenes just had me laughing, and the villain is just as much a total bastard as DDs villains. has some really epic scenes, great use of certain rap songs. and Luke is a great guy. storyline wise it flows better then JJ, way better and the dialogue is witty and funny, but sometimes hard to follow.

reply

Luke cage was okay, but I agree Jessica Jones has the best dialogue of all the Marvel shows by far.

reply

I haven't seen all the marvel shows yet or least just very little of them except for Daredevil. I like Daredevil's dialogue and JJ is good too I think but I can't decided between the two shows on dialogue. I base it on if they respond in ways that seem reasonable and if the dialogue is self-aware; like if a character says something cringey, will another will point it out?

reply

Luke Cage's problem is the back half of the show. Once Diamondback comes in the show starts to go downhill.

reply

Yeah, it doesn't mean that the acting is terrible. It's just the insertion of Diamondback at that critical moment when we were all waiting for Cottonmouth to make his move on LC kind of threw things off.

Poor writing

reply

Yeah, Luke Cage was pretty nice overall but it was more flawed than I expected it to be. That being said, in all fairness I believe so much of the dialogue in Luke Cage is supposed to be, what's that word, corny. That's right, and that is thanks to its blaxploitation elements. Now, I won't claim that is the ENTIRE reason why Luke Cage is lacking strong dialogue, but I will say that some viewers tend to miss the point.

In any case, out of the three Marvel Netflix shows so far, I give DD the most credit by far (including for its dialogue, which, granted is mainly because the characters there leave the bigger impression on me). But yeah, Jessica Jones has got great dialogue and right now I rather have season 2 of JJ over Luke Cage (unless things get more intense in the latter).

You want something corny? You got it!

Luke Cage was great up until they killed off the main villain. I liked that guy. He was always laughing, too, which made me laugh.
