Sorely disappointed in this series..
..I wanted to love it. halfway through episode 5, and I my interest is is barely there. Seems Netflix couldn't catch lightning in a bottle twice, with the superhero shows (daredevil).

Apparently about 4.8 million people disagree (though that number is an estimate as Netflix doesn't release viewer stats).
I expect that if you liked Daredevil you'll probably still like Luke Cage, Iron Fist and the Defenders mini-series. You might even like JJ season 2 since the tone of season 1 was mostly driven by the villain (who is many people's favorite MCU villain BTW).
Different strokes and all that.

Like Cage could be very interesting.
I'm so in the dark about it.
I knew DD was based on Frank Miller and JJ on Brian Bendis but Cage?
I do like the talent they have assembled.
Not necessarily. After 4 episodes I only forced myself to watch the rest of it as a bridge between seasons of Daredevil since it was made as such (in the way the movies were fro each other). I suspect a lot of people did it for the same reasons. Which means the numbers for it are higher than they would have been if it had been a standalone series, or had Daredevil been a miserable failure. So it's not the success it's being portrayed as. That's not to say it wasn't successful, just that it's inflated to some degree.
As to the series, I really hated it. It can be best summed up as
A bunch of miserable people being so miserable it's miserable to watch.
Yes, some are entertained by that. I'm not one of them. Unless I hear a lot of people enjoy the 2nd season of it for very different reasons, I'm skipping it. It'll be the 1st MCU anything I'll pass on (unless something else lousy comes up before then as JJ has now lowered the I'll put up with this since MCU stuff pays off by the end), but i'm not enduring that again.
To each their own. But just because something doesn't appeal to you doesn't mean it's inherently "lousy".
I do agree that some people will watch MCU content that's not really appealing to them just to sort of soak up more MCU content, but I don't think it significantly impacts the numbers. Netflix numbers are tough to nail down anyway.

The ratings are mostly positive for this show. The only people who seem to dislike it are religious nuts, homophobes (?) and people who don't like the fact that main protagonist is a woman. Just my opinion.
shareI'm a long time Marvel fan that simply acknowledges that it's a poorly written mess. It costs me nothing to admit that because I have hope for the future.

I'll go farther and to say I really disliked this show. That goes beyond disappointed for a true Marvel fan that LOVED Daredevil.
"true Marvel fan" that's HILARIOUS. Was there a test? Did Stan Lee anoint you with the golden pen of Jack Kirby?
You loved Daredevil? Great! You didn't like this? Shame, but that's understandable. They are very different shows after all. It would be dull as crap if they had the same themes and directions but with just different cast. No-one is going to like everything - do you like every comic that Marvel puts out every week?
No need to post in a bunch of different threads that you don't like it, once is enough to get the message across.
It's hot... but not as hot as the night Johnny Viti got married...
No true Marvel fan enjoyed this messy messy season. I hope season two redeems the character but I doubt it with the same cast in place.
shareYou didn't answer my question - What exactly is a 'true Marvel fan'?!
Dont see why you needed a sock account to reply either.

Make Mine Marvel
And I loved this show.
Jessica's character isn't supposed to be redeemed by the way - that's the entire point. That's exactly what made Bendis write her the way he did. She's unique in that she rejects the idea of being a hero, is deeply damaged but deep down wants to help people.
Totally fine if you didn't like the show - your tastes may vary - but literally millions of true Marvel fans enjoyed this show.

I'm with you, I loved this show. Compared to Flash and how sweet that character is despite his history, JJ seems more real, more human, more flawed. JJ is deeply down on herself and makes some terrible mistakes (being intimate with Luke, nearly killing Wendy), so I get why some people are turned off, but the very thing that turns them off intrigues me more. I loved how unique this show was, especially for Marvel.
shareI'm copy-pasting someone else's words, but malmborgimplano-92-599820 described it perfectly in another thread:
"I'm guessing that this series would be deeply unsatisfying to fans of the traditional superhero genre because the superheroes in this universe act more like traditional detective-film noir antiheroes than superheroes. They are deeply flawed and neurotic rather than pure-hearted and godlike. Also having superpowers is seen as more of a liability than a benefit. Kilgrave's superpowers turn him into a sadistic predator and Jessica and Luke, at least when we first meet them, need all the strength they can get just to make it through their everyday lives. They have a lot more in common with Philip Marlowe and Kinsey Millhone than Batman and Superman."share

I can't stand how it has to follow this lazy new Avengers trend where every super hero only seems to get interesting if they don't keep a secret identity and they must have their powers revealed. It's just become so cliche and so boring. Its like the cop out and easy way to write a comic. If you can't manage to write the complexities of keeping 2 identities and keeping things secret you just say FVVVCCCK it lets just not deal with that. The whole fun of the classic heroes like SUperman and Batman and Spiderman is seeing how they manage regular lives and they actually try to protect their love ones and families.
I guess the writers for Jessica Jones are too lazy to worry about that. Maybe this new generation they are too self absorbed and too SELFIE crazed they can't be bothered to worry about other people around them, they can't expend energy to protect others and when innocent people died because of their own selfishness and laziness it's perfectly ok!!!
It's just become so cliche and so boring.
This was just bad TV, period.
What I love about this show is its steadfast commitment to its premise, combined with its ability to find interesting character and plot developments without betraying that original premise.
It doesn't help that many of the Jessica Jones naysayers don't make very persuasive cases. They pop into a board like this, complain about it being boring or poorly constructed without elaborating, then vanish, reemerging to restate their POV in different language. Many of them seem to take it personally that so many people like the show*, or that such a disappointing show would be associated with their "baby". Or, they fixate upon one particular moment, plot development, character, and say that it "ruined" the show for them. There's also the plothole fetishists, who decide that something doesn't "make sense", therefore the show is a waste of time. Some of these are just general observations about IMDb, not about this board in particular.
The bottom line is, you can't please everybody. There are plenty of intelligent people out there who don't like/wouldn't like Jessica Jones, but by any reasonable standards, it's made well enough to pass for...uh, "well made".
*I mean, I don't know why some people take their dislike of the show personally. Is it jealousy, or some weird "I don't like it so no one else should" kind of thing? I really don't get it. There are some shows I dropped because I simply did not enjoy them but I'm happy for those who love them. And the constant misuse of "plot hole" simply because someone's not enjoying a show is rather ludicrous.
I love daredevil but I love this show WAY more. I found it way more enjoyable to watch
shareTrolls don't return to their posts.
This show was disappointing - the script was terrible and the two female leads (Jessica & trish) gave awful cheesy performances.
It's all too evident that the scriptwriter needs firing in order to save this show - season 1 was rubbish. Daredevil was the same - both need a bit more grit! Come on Marvel, man up!!!
season 1 was rubbish.

because its for adults
shareA few days later now and I can honestly say my 4/10 stands. What is is with some U.S production and comics - Constantine waas woeful and could/should have been brilliant, so should this and daredevil but, unfrtunately, they were rubbish - I think I could've done a better job of Jessica Jones (haha, that will infuriate so many people!!!)
Honestly, some of the cinematography was utterly abysmal - and Jessica was so wooden - I feel like I could list problems with it all day and all night.... It was so cheesy in places it made me cringe!!!
Really wanted to like - really annoyed i couldn't - Very VERY disappointing -
i understand this is simply my opinion - you have yours, I'm sharing mine! Healthy for debate yeah..

I'm sorry but Jessica Jones flat out sucked. That series was shallow and as badly written as it gets. NO emotional attachment there at all. Luke Cage has already delivered more depth in six episodes (halfway through watching it) than JJ ever did.

Seems to me that these so called fans didn't bother learning who exactly Jessica Jones is before watching the Netflix show and then complain that she doesn't fit the standard superhero genre format.
There were changes made to her "Alias" adapted story, mainly due to budget (Avengers) and TV rights (X-Men). But the only issue I had was that her past with Luke Cage was altered, but that was because they wanted to start a Luke Cage series. So I personally would have released Luke Cage before the Jessica Jones series to have their original past introduced.
Other than that everything was great and understandable why changes were made.

Never understood why people get angry when other people don't like their shows? TV is like every other form of entertainment--it's subjective. To each their own.
Personally, I thought this show was nothing special. I really enjoyed Kilgrave as a character, for me he was hands down the best actor and the most interesting character in the series. Without him though, I won't be coming back to watch, unfortunately. I will comment on something that Derrick said though, about "learning who Jessica Jones is before watching." Thing is, people shouldn't have to research a character in order to connect with him or her. Straight away I felt there was a problem with the writing because of this disconnect, and I like the comics! Series though, was underwhelming for me and I think David Tennant and Carrie Moss were the highlights of the series talent. As I said though, and as William Shatner famously said: "For crying out loud people, it's just a TV show!" :)

This show was nothing special. It was insulting and dull.
