Is Hollywood trolling us?

I feel like Hollywood is churning out crap remakes and sequels just to piss us off. They must love losing millions of dollars just to read all the comments online.

Either that, or they are deeply disconnected from what audiences want to see.

The trailer for this looks so blah to someone such as myself who has seen hundreds of movies. Maybe someone who watches a few movies a year and has no grasp of good storytelling might think this looks awesome.

Why do we need a mummy that has the ability to disintegrate London? We have watched cities and even the world get wrecked over and over again in cinema to the point of being numbed by it. How about instead of a movie that relies on city-destroying special effects, we get a meaningful story with characters we actually give a s*** about?

Why does the mummy of an Egyptian queen by default have to be evil? Why can't we sympathize a little with her because she was awakened to find herself in a modern world in which her beloved empire has been in ruins for centuries and no one remembers her name, a tragic tale of the mortality we all face? Maybe she does have some mystical powers, and it can be explained that raising from the dead perhaps causes a soul to take back with it the powers of life and death (or some crap like that)? Maybe she accidentally kills what she touches, and we see how she feels isolated and lost. Make her a tragic character, don't just make her some evil mummy that senselessly wipes out cities!

And I know what some of you will say: "This is just the trailer! How do you know that they don't do something like that? You're acting like you know everything just from a small trailer!" And to that I will answer that we have many, many movies that have come out over the last several decades that all follow the same patterns. This is a junk reboot with no soul, and I guarantee you that you would be wasting your money to go to the theater to see this when there are better movies coming out. Watch it when it comes out on home media if you like movies just because cool stuff (powered by cgi) sometimes happens in them.

Considering how the last election went in CA vs the rest of the country and where Hollywood is located. Yes they are out of touch. When China finally buys them out and relocates to the new studios they are building for that exact purpose, maybe we will begin to see watchable films. Until then, we will have to stomach this garbage.

Well, I don't think the entire state of California is representative of the movie industry, but I get your point.

The problem with China is that they like the big budget spectacles I despise. They're the ones, for example, keeping the Transformers movies going. I seriously doubt moving to China would give us much of anything with substance.

the 1999 movie was great. Hollywood is indeed trolling us, for a long time now.

Is it just me or did this trailer want to look like a Mission Impossible movie?

Can't believe Brendan Fraser's was made 17 years ago..
