Trailer looks all CGI

I thought it was for a video game it looked so CGi ish.

reply

There were literally only two shots in the whole 15 second tease that had cgi.

reply

your mom looks cgi.

reply

CGI has destroyed movies.

reply

Sure did. The only people I know that love CGI are gamers. Which happens to be most people so no big deal. But people who are used to staring at CGI all day, they don't even notice. Us book readers are still scratching our heads about the whole thing.

"I said no camels, that's five camels, can't you count?"

reply

"CGI has destroyed movies."

CGI is a tool - it doesn't destroy movies.

reply

You are right but it has made film makers and studios completely lazy.

Back in the day film makers had to be creative with effects or use suspense. Now a days film studios are happy to fund CGI fests because the tech advances have made it so easy to pump this stuff out. It doesn't feel or look special anymore generally.

reply

CGI can help avoid using as many stuntmen, less dangerous sets are required. Its much safer making a movie in the computer room than on the set

reply

Indeed. In many ways CGI has helped advance filmmaking as a whole. Most movies today wouldn't look half has good without CGI or motion capture.

To name a few examples, Dawn of the planet of the apes and The Jungle Book.

"You are right but it has made film makers and studios completely lazy."

CGI hasn't made filmmakers and studios lazy - if there's a lack of effort on the studios' and/or filmmakers' parts, that's on them, not CGI. As Guillermo Del Toro had said in one of the features for "Pacific Rim", a filmmaker cannot just say "Oh, let's put CG in here" and just leave it at that, a filmmaker has to direct, including the look and animation of said-CGI.

reply

CGI has absolutely made SOME studios lazy in some ways. If Jurassic park was made today the studio wouldn't even be willing to fund animatronics for example (Jurassic world). It's a much easier way around a problem than ever before. Now is that their fault? Absolutely.

And CGI can and has been used to amazing effect many times.

reply

CGI is still a growing and evolving tool in filmaking.

Eventually I would imagine CGI will take on a whole different level to litterly mimick tangible real life objects. It would look better than models. It would look insanely real.

reply

What? Cruise himself says:

I saw her. Sh*t is real.

;)

reply

It's a shame I'll never read an actually intelligent well thought out CGI criticism in my lifetime that isn't uttered by a complete and utter dolt, it's a shame really...

reply

LOOOOOL. . .agreed; a thousand percent

"Personally I hope they make all the gods black and change it from Valhalla to Valholla!"

reply

If you can tell it is CGI, it has not done what it is supposed to do. Special effects are supposed to look real even when you know they are not. CGI always looks like fancy animation to me. I can never buy into it.

reply

Uh huh.

So you couldn't tell the Harryhausen effects were fake? You watched the Gumby TV show, and thought those were real? Cartoons puzzle you?

"Hasn't done what it is supposed to do?" You sound confused.
