Til I learned it eas intended to launch a monster movie cinematic universe wtf

They've been trying to for decades. At one stage universal went to Kevin Smith to try and pitch 'jay and silent bob meets dracula'
They've had the rights to the properties since the 40s and the marvel movie model is desperately trying to be implimented. Just like with DC.

It'll fail because they are setting out to make something huge from something little and it doesn't work like that.

The marvel cinematic universe started with just a comic book movie with a great tone and the sequals/spin offs naturally evoluted from them to make an extended universe.
Announcing it before the first movie drops is arrogantly assumption which people don't respond well to

Nah, the announcing hardly has anything to do with it. If the first film does well and received well by the audience, they will follow it.

The primer for DCEU was supposed to be MOS. By itself was a mediocre film to begin with.

The Universal monsters universe was suppose to begin with Dracula untold, again another mediocre film so they decided to start it with The Mummy.

Wanna bet that Legendary's Godzilla-Kong universe will work? It has a good start.

This will be the only comment or reply you'll get. Like I give a sh!t about YOUR interwebz opinion.

I'm guessing you never watched the good old horror movies on tv? I'm talking about Karloff, Lugosi, Lee-1930's-the true horror classics. These were the Universal Monsters-all connected.

Oddly enough, I was only interested in this movie because I thought it would be connected to Dracula Untold, but news that it's the start of the franchise kind of reduced my interest in it. Maybe another trailer later on will help me make a better judgement.

I think they tried to do that back when Van Helsing came out in 2004. However, I'm getting sick of the film universes and remakes/reboots/re-imaginings that have dominated the box office for the past 5 years. Let's get some original people in Hollywood and maybe we can see new films...
