So this movie is the start of the Universal monster universe?

I heard they were doing something like that and it could be and interesting take on it. I see that Crowe is Jekyll, any news on who else might show up in this movie like Van Helsing or Dr Frankenstein/

Exactly what I thought. They have a scheduled one, no title. A Wolf Man and Van Helsing. Can't wait to see what is done. Fingers crossed, I pray they will be good.

From my understanding this is the second movie set in the new "Universal Monster Universe." The first one was supposed to be Dracula Untold.

However, that movie didn't do so hot, so that idea may have been scrapped and this is the new "start" instead.

Dracula Untold was originally supposed to stand alone. Then they retrofitted it with a tweaked ending to try and slide it in, just in case it turned out to be successful. But it wasn't, so they decided to scrap it.

Warning! The Monster is loose!

It's officially been scraped?
After all that fuss with re-shoots and re-edits to force to to fit and be the first movie in the series they just dump it. The Mummy doesn't look much better really, just more action packed CGI fest, and jokes. None of the gothic horror that mummy films use to be. Hammer made the last great Mummy movies.

Because Universal now doesn't want these rebooted movies to be full time horror movies, they will have elements of horror, but they will be more action-adventure based.
