think Universal underestimated how well liked/popular Fraser Mummy is

social media seems to be flooded with Mummy remake? why? wheres Fraser? Why would they remake Mummy with Cruise instead of Fraser etc is Cruise playing Rick O Connel? etc,

Universal probably figured oh well no one cares about those Fraser movies now, the last one didn't do all that well (it did though - 400m ww), people barely remember them. Fraser isn't in movies now etc,

but 1999 Mummy is something of a classic in many movie goers eyes. (to people who were young when they saw them its probably like remaking Indiana Jones!)

I guess the reason they starting the UMCU with Mummy is due to the success of the Fraser films (as opposed to starting with Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolfman as all recent versions bombed)...in fact they might have been wise to loosely tie this one into those movies (with Cruise playing Rick O Connels grandson or something)

kind of surprised with this 'brendan fraser love'. i mean if people liked him so much why didn't they watched his other movies so that he can still be relevant and continue making studio movies.

reply

Well I love the mummy and the mummy returns mostly because of Rachael wise..brandan was funny tho to ..it's weird seeing this as a remake now it makes me feel like the other mummy movies came out over 15 years ago (which I think it did) omg I feel so old

The truth doesn't cost anything, but a lie could cost you everything.

The million dollar question.

Somehow, I think if another actor instead of Tom Cruise were starring in this, there wouldn't be half the hate. Kind of hypocritical...

I was going to correct your spelling and punctuation/lack of... but since you spelled his name correctly, I'll let it go. 

P.S. "Relevant" is really becoming redundant.

It doesn't actually seem to be a reboot. Just a mummy movie.

What I think is incredibly sad is that the name Fraser keeps coming up. The true Mummy horror movie would mean Karloff. As mentioned Fraser's movie was closer to being an Indiana Jones movie(not that that is bad, just not horror).

reply

Well that series replaced Gothic horror for jokes and action and this new film seems to be the same.

This is also the 13th or 14th *proper* Mummy film.

I saw the Fraser ones when I was young and I didn't even remember they existed.,
