Was that supposed to be Dracula?

The bats that crash the plane, I thought it looked like the bat thing Dracula did in "Dracula Untold"

it might be a way to connect the two movies but i think it would be more likely to be Caligula(dracula's vampire sire(the old man in the cave)

reply

They weren't bats, and that movie isn't part of this universe.

Aren't they both made by Universal, I thought Dracula Untold was the first in the Universal Old Monsters universe that they are trying to reboot.

Also looked a lot like bats to me. What did it look like to you?

Director Alex Kurtzman, who is also one of the main figureheads of this whole universe project, confirmed in a roundtable interview that Dracula Untold is not connected.

They looked like birds to me. If I don't think they're bats, what else could I possibly think they are?

They may be natural non-supernatural birds.

There's a term for the phenomenon when a flock of bird hits a plane.

Birdstrike or something.

It also happens in The Edge (1997).

reply

Fair enough so if that's what the film makers have said but they are definitely bats not birds.

I still see bats but wow you have some time on your hands and a weird urge to be right.

Why the heck did an admin delete my post? I didn't break any rules. I swear the forums on this site have gone to hell, and piss-poor admins going through reports like robots is a big reason why.

The trolls and the racists and the Neo-Nazis are another big reason, but we haven't had so many of them here.

Because IMDB is in bed with Kurtzman... THAT HACK!!!

Seriously, all I said was, basically, that I'm just trying to prevent unfair expectations from forming via the spread of false information, such as the notion of Dracula appearing in the film as a swarm of bats, possibly even a reference to Dracula Untold.

As we now know Dracula Untold is not canon and those are clearly birds.

Why that was so bad it had to be deleted, I just do not understand.

Warning! The Monster is loose!

reply

I agree. I thought they were bats until I saw your pictures. Why the administrator deleted it is unclear. I've see worse remain on these threads over the years. Including my own.

Seriously, I've seen some downright vile posts here. Not many, but some. And I just checked on some of them. And they're still here. Meanwhile my post is deleted? Surely it wasn't reported enough times to warrant that kind of action.

It's only my opinion, I'm not trying to spread fake lies about the film. I honestly see bats. Even if it is bats it doesn't have to mean it's connected to Dracula. Maybe it is just a cool looking effect for the film and they were called on by The Mummy.

P.S now that you mention it, it does remind me of the monster squad.

I didn't mean to suggest that you lied about it, you're obviously not lying. It's just that...it's clearly birds. And I'd rather prove my point with images, which clearly prove they're birds, than let this just be a constant back-and-forth that goes nowhere.

I thought it was you that deleted it. That is weird, this whole thread is gone batty. Eh, Eh... 

But they are defitniely not bats so good job being blind.

I'm just gonna say that's very sad and dissapointing! I think Luke Evans was a great "modern" Dracula and would've worked!!! No reference to Untold necessary, just keep Evans cast and loosely connect them! But what do I know eh? :(

Im gonna punch you in the cooter, I swear to God!

Did you see the new trailer? Definitely Bats!

reply

1) What new trailer?
2) They're still birds. They've always been birds.

Warning! The Monster is loose!

reply

1) Just the second Trailer I meant it's been up a while but in my mind it was the new trailer

2) I was pulling your leg for one last time since the boards are closing down 😝... Still BATS.

reply

The first time I watched the trailer I thought they were birds. The last couple of times I think they look like bats.

reply

Modern-Prometheus' pictures look like birds. But I see all types of birds in those pictures now. I thought/assumed they were bats at first. Maybe that crash is caused by all animal types with the gift of flight.

I know they are birds, but if they were bats, for me that sequence would have been the best ending of the movie for me. Tom Cruise succeeds in capturing the mummy in her tomb and as they are taking her back to Egypt, a bunch of bats crash the plane killing everyone. Then Vlad from Dracula Untold opens the tomb recruiting the first monster he needs to fight the vampire that created him. I don't care if it sounds lame, I would have loved to see it happen. lol Shame Dracula Untold isn't apart of the series anymore.

reply

That would have been a cool post-credits scene whether it was Dracula from Untold or even a new Dracula. Alas, it's clearly not to be.

There is a bit of a Monster Squad vibe about it though, if you catch my drift.

Warning! The Monster is loose!

reply

They're batbirds.

reply

I was wondering how they could be connected. If it turns out as a twist to be Dracula being in Egypt that would be solid. It wouldn't be treading on the mummy and Is be for it.
