How does Tom Cruise keep finding work?

Thats it, how? I just dont get it. He is plain terrible. Ranks right up there with Nicholas Cage. Same character, different movie!

reply

He has yet to make a movie that isn't entertaining...he is a movie star.

~I see a little silhouette of a man, Scaramouche, Scaramouche, will you do the Fandango.

reply

I guess you haven't seen War of the Worlds. That pile of crap definitely wasn't entertaining, I had too much to do ignoring the massive plot holes and nonexistant logic.
But that's actually the only bad movie on his rep sheet.

reply

If you didn't like TWOTW, it wasn't TC's fault

~I see a little silhouette of a man, Scaramouche, Scaramouche, will you do the Fandango.

reply

No, it wasn't. War of the Worlds was extremely badly written, the acting was ok, even though Dakota Fanning was better than Tom Cruise ;)

Whoop whoop whoop! OPINION ALERT!

So now the H. G. Wells classic was extremely badly written. It's been around for 120 years and you're the first to realise this? What a stupid statement.

Wells did not write the screenplay of Cruise's film. It was an adaptation of his original work. The screenplay for the Tom Cruise movie was written by Josh Friedman and David Koepp. So, yes, people can argue the film was badly written since it was the work of two screenwriters.

the Mission Impossible movies have been putting Bond to shame. Edge of Tomorrow was fantastic with both action and depth. Les Grossman is about as far a departure as any actor of his caliber has done. you're talking out of your ass, OP.

Nicholas Cage deserves all the slack in the world for the good movies he's made be it the it thing to give the dude *beep* or not. con air, snake eyes, face off. all great and those are just the ones that are more my time.

not everyone can be Denzel doing just one movie every once in a while where the entire production seems to revolve around them.

if you don't have anything nice to say ...you're probably a butthole

reply

Well, he's done a variety of movies that are not action based movies and I think he is a fantastic actor. He's just been hurt by tabloids and such.

I don't believe fine directors such as Oliver Stone, Stanley Kubrick, Steve Spielberg, Cameron Crowe, Sydney Pollack and Paul Tomas Anderson would agree with you that he is "plain terrible".

Movies that I find his acting incredible:

Eyes Wide Shut
Rain Man
Born on the Fourth of July
Interview with the Vampire
Magnolia
Jerry Maguire
Collateral
Vanilla Sky
Valkyrie
Lions for Lambs

reply

Felipelena i could not agree with you more. His acting is best in the movies you listed which i find all to be amazing films. I also really liked him in A few good men another great film also i think he was just amazing in Tropical Thunder. Tom may no longer act at such challenging roles as he used to but that does not mean he cant act. He has proven his skills many times and his choice of movies in the last decade does diminish that.

reply

He's one of my favorite actors.

I have the feeling if I met him in real life I wouldn't like him at all, but I go to the movies to be entertained. There are other actors that from everything I've read about them they seem like wonderful people that would be great to get a beer and eat some pizza with; but their movies just never hook me.

reply

He used to be good. Played all kinds of different roles and did them well. But he has been on a straight cookie cutter action hero for awhile now. He is very capable of being great. Collateral was one of his best. Maybe he just enjoys action films.

reply

Or, if you don't understand why movies make money, why all of the movies he's in make money and why he keeps getting hired because of that... you might just be stupid.

reply

You do know that he basically owns United Artists, don't you?

I like both Tom Cruise and Nicholas Cage in some movies, but you are right. I'd say there are more Cruise movies that I like than Cage movies though, even though I really fkn hate Cruise.
