Did the Dallas cops really abuse ...

...Robert Oswald? I have read dozens of books on the JFK assassination, and have never heardthat a cop told him to move away in snarly tones. I read they had sympathy for him. Is there a source for this part of the film?

reply

No, they didn't. It's one of the ridiculous "dramatic" effect moments needlessly inserted into the film.

Some months after the assassination, Robert Oswald was pulled over by a state trooper in Fort Worth. The trooper noticed the name on the driver's license and asked if he was Lee's brother. Oswald expected to be given a hard time, but the trooper instead told him he'd been praying for Robert and his family.

While it's certainly reasonable to believe local law enforcement hated LHO for allegedly killing Officer Tippit, there's no documented evidence that ill will was extended to LHO's family.

Thanks.I thought I'd missed something. Good to know they didn't judge a man for what his brother did.

I read about it - but I don't know the details. Robert Oswald did have to leave with his family and forever lived under the shadow of his brother's crime.

I just posted a thread on this - I think Robert Oswald (not knowing his real story) is possibly the most tragic figure in the story of Kennedy.

But really it is tragic for all mankind. A story that is at once nothing new and nothing old.

What hump? 
