Is it Bosun or Boatswain?
My closed caption used both randomly.

Lol. I Googled it last week for the same reason. CC uses it interchangeably. They are the same thing. Pronounced bosun.
shareBoth are correct, but Boatswain is proper.
I feel sorry for anyone that has to depend on closed caption to follow what people are saying on a show. More often than not, it's horribly inaccurate and lacks information. Sometimes it's utter gibberish.
LOL you "feel sorry" for people who use closed captioning?? I don't need to use it- fortunately- but I like to in case I miss one word. It's tough to make out background talk, etc. But I do believe there are much more legit reasons to feel sorry for people!

I'm referring to someone that depends on Close Captioning to follow what people are saying on a show due to having some type of hearing impairment. Not because they missed one word, but because they depend on Close Captioning for the entire show.

Unfortunately, because people don't know how to enunciate their words properly on these "reality" shows, sometimes the only way to figure out what they're saying is to have the CC on.
shareShip worker here-Bosun is more common but both can be used, no difference. Mostly depends on nationality of crew members versus any sort of ranking.
shareBosun, boatswain or bos’n. All are correct, although I prefer the last two.
shareBoatswaina is a country in Africa.
