Art+Sound direction

So just to start off: I dig the movie as a whole. I really dig the screenplay.
I really really dig the actors performances (well torn on the Hello Nurse's accent - is that a mix between oxford brit. and maybe polish? Not a native speaker and couldn't figure out where that was from D: )

So anyway... the sound and art direction bothers me :/

I kept thinking "wow this looks like 80s sci-fy... if they had touchscreens" and "whyyyyy would gilliam use that cheap stock booing sfx?!?!" throughout!

I get that it was meant as a tool to lighten the tone and to force self reflection (my guess) but for the love of the church of Batman he overdid it quite a bit. Just kept tearing me out of it all.

The VR suits might aswell scream "SILLY SPERM LOOKING 80S SUIT LOL ROFL KITTENS ARE CUTE WOW OMG WTF SO RANDOM!" at you...

it just diminishes the whole thing for me for some reason :S

am i alone in this?

I'm sorry to say I disagree.

Some aspects certainly do look ridiculous, but I feel like that was the point.
The film was making fun of so many aspects of the present, and I can see aspects of reality in pretty much everything the film offered.

The church of batman seems ridiculous, yet there are countless people that identify as ""Jedi" in a religious sense.
Of course that whole thing started as a joke, but it's grown so big now that it's even effecting laws.
Not only that, but look at some of the insane acts taken on by fans of certain cultural phenomenon.

It's getting more and more common to see groups of people doing extremist acts in the name of a simple piece of entertainment.
People that murder in the name of a fictional character, (the killer that supposedly dressed as the joker, the two little girls that killed a friend as a sacrifice to Slenderman)
Look at the videos of Toby Turner's (youtube celebrity) London visit where crowds went insanely out of control to the extent that multiple people got seriously injured.

There was a zombie walk recently where people got so invested they started to attack a pedestrian's car and didn't stop even when they cracked the windscreen and had the guy screaming at them, he eventually just floored it and rammed them out of the way running over an old lady in the process.

In modern days it's getting easier and easier for large groups to come together over specific interests and to really invest themselves in something, and as a result it's becoming MUCH more often for people to take these things too far.

So I don't really think a church of Batman is too unbelievable.

Well the church of batman didn't bother me either, it's a funny idea and has nothing to do with the visuals n sound of the movie XD
