Best cinema experience this year.

For me it was the most visually moving film I've seen in the cinemas this year.
Gilliam is in top form and there's so much underneath the surface in the Zero Theorem, let alone on the unstable surface.
Much symbolism and timeless imagery.
It was very beautiful and ended on a melancholy but infinitely open note.
It's unfortunate that it's not getting much attention but this film is not one for the masses.
When the film ended, no one rose from their seats for a good long minute, there was a lot of energy in the air as we all sat entranced. A unique positive experience indeed.
Big ups to Gilliams vision!

Thats really weird and ive never seen that in any movie. Perhaps you were on some sort of medication and was not able to perceive time correctly?

there was a lot of energy in the air

o boy...

A unique positive experience indeed.

If you remove the 'positive' word, id agree with you there.

lol yes this film is anything but positive.... kinda depressing actually

All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in the rain

reply

Sad, yes, but depressing?
Not anymore than our daily consumer apathetic lives.
The ending was quite bright. I mean he literally holds the sun as he smiles!
If that imagery doesn't convey hope to you then...
Anyways that's how I saw it, a positive ending. Like much art it says more about the interpreter.

Just  to the disappearing others

reply

Did you see Under The Skin? That was one of the most unique movie going experiences I've had in a long while.

reply

It was in a local theatre for a weekend and missed it unfortunately!
I've had it on DVD from Netflix for a week...

It is certainly one of the of the films I really loved this year and it is prime Gilliam. I mean this is the first film from Terry since Fear and Loathing where I really felt he had the thing firing on all cylinders. A must see for Gilliam fans and people that enjoy thoughtful filmmaking.

reply

Glad it also left others with something to contemplate about.
It was mastery.

reply

It's funny and inventive.

And a true picture of our paranoid times living in a simulacrum.

I'm still thinking about it sometimes.

Easily Gilliam's best since "12 Monkeys".

reply

That might be true.
Gilliam certainly has his share divisive films. Some love his movies which others hate and vice versa.
This film I felt was for the most part accessible even if you don't know of Gilliam and his works.

babies first real movie, i feel sorry for you

reply
