enjoyed the anti-nihilist sentiment
I liked that, given the time period the movie was set, there was a mention during the war meeting about how the Japanese government (and culture) seemed to not value its citizen's lives enough... their modern culture reflects a similar sentiment with their low birth rate. Perhaps (hoping it's with a bit of Western influence) I liked the conscious acknowledgment that nihilism and 'duty first' aren't what should be embraced over the desire to live anymore...
now I'm off to watch Shin Godzilla!
