The miscast of Blacks and Asian characters in certain roles was too much for me

It was too jarring. Blacks and Asians didn't have prominent roles in White society in the past. That's a fact.

Too woke and PC for me. Not watching it anymore.

The casting choices jarred with me also!
I’d just seen the trailer of Bridgerton too, which was certainly in my list of interests to watch....but had decided not to watch it alas for the same reason....only for the same casting to be used in this film, which is based on history and facts!
I’m certainly not racist at all, but it just takes me out of the whole experience completely.

What experience?

reply

Experience of the film.

reply

And what is the experience of the film?

reply

ELIZA, is it you?

reply

As in being immersed in the film....no distractions, so experiencing it in its entirety - what it’s portraying, the sets, the scenery, how it plays out, the characters etc; in this case, historical accuracy to me is important because it is telling a real historical tale in a known, factual time period.
No matter how a film or story makes me feel, or how the film makers spin the history (whether I know about it in detail or not) having the cast not look authentic in a factual, serious film makes for a poor experience for my own viewing pleasure.

Woke Cow Director Josie Rourke actually said that she did this deliberately, by putting blacks and asians in prominent roles of power in this historical period film for the woke diversity.

this is why i prefer to watch film from long time ago before woke cast.

i dont like to watch film that have actor who are not chose on talent but race/gender.

older film are better than today film because not woketard in olden time, just people who are commit to making great film not agenda.

Not to mention the casting for both lead roles was poorly thought out (Queen Mary never had a Scottish accent, despite being born in Scotland. She spent most of her early life in France, and therefore had a French accent when she was an adult). The actress playing Elizabeth was downright ugly, and looked even worse in the Elizabethan getup.

The costumes and hair were ridiculous too! No doubt the actresses hated wearing Elizabethan-era dresses made with heavy denim that got wet and heavy easily. Queen Mary also would have never allowed her hair to get as snarled and messed-up as we see in this film, nor would she ever have worn six rings in her right ear.

The amount of blacks in this film was absolutely absurd, to the point of pure fantasy fiction.

Elizabeth: The Golden Age does a better rundown of the events leading to Mary's execution, than this film, and that wasn't a particularly great movie itself.

Quite a shame really, a chance to tell what is a pretty decent dramatic story of history, and force the audience into distraction with obvious falsehoods about the racial make-up of England and Scotland in 1560. I mean really, spend all that money making a movie like this, with the extravagant costuming, and makeup, the nice location shooting, all to make your audience wonder why the hell the ambassador to England is black, the head mistress is Chinese, and the Scottish consort is Mexican or Puerto Rican? Seriously?

SKIN COLOR...WHOA...WHAT A DISTRACTION.
