Most people who hated this film could not get past the subject matter! I don't care for this type of behavior but the film was well performed by the 2 stars.
A similar film on this subject matter was SECRETARY (2002), when both participants were into this type of sexual deviancy.
The biggest difference with that film was they were both into it...and he was her employer..and they never dated,nor met friends or family...and most important to me, Lee had been treated for self inflicted cutting..and had a boyfriend and got engaged.
And the haters of 50 Shades evidently weren't fans of the books, because they would have known the subject matter

We know Christian has had at least 15 submissives in his life before Ana,all who signed contracts, and were experienced in that lifestyle...we don't know what he was like with them..you do get more of that part of his life in the latest book Grey, told from his point of view...but there would be no reason for us to see it as this story is about Christian and Ana..she is not a submissive...never signs a contract..does he go easy on her to begin with?..absolutely...she is a virgin..but he believes he can coax/train/mold her into what he needs..this all takes place in less than a months time..of course, he messes up big time..but....
