Absolutely awful movie. Cant believe this was a hit.

This is an awful movie. I watched it today and I regret wasting two hours of my time watching this trash movie. Everything about this movie is poor and rubbish. The storyline, acting, sex scenes and sadism all rubbish. This movie is unratable and unwatchable.

You said: "Well...the books sold way over a million copies...that's a lot of fans..."

Correction: "that's a lot of idiots..."

... and the author and now the studio have taken said idiots straight to the bank. Sad really. But, as some wise men repeatedly say, "You can't fix stupid."

Lots and lots of people loved the storyline, acting, and the sex scenes...So,if it helps you,you have just wasted your time watching a movie that has lots and lots of fans and I can see clearly you're not one of them..and it's fine

Relax OP you're not missing out on anything because you're not a "fan" surprised you haven't been reprimanded yet by someone reminding you this film made 500 million or that it's Oscar nominated for Best Song!

I don't think most men would get it...this is female erotic fantasy...nothing wrong with that..and yes, it speaks to a certain audience...and I predict the next movie will be even bigger...better story for one...and the last movie even better, it hits the jackpot..

So we hear of a movie goer leaving a cucumber for the workers to pick up??? I bet you a free ticket to 50 Shades Darker that they have picked up a lot worse things than that over the last 50 years..make that 5 years..

Right..hmm...let see...Hangover 1,2,3..tripe..any Transformer movie..oh, I could go on and on..throw many a Adam Sandler flick..I don't think you really want to get into this..

Except all of those are still better than this, and are not specifically geared towards men...try again.

Now, a question of etiquette - as I pass, do I give you the ass, or the crotch?

I am a woman and didn´t get it. Honestly the characters were lame, there was no chemistry between them. I felt the scenes were dull and boring. I love watching movies but for some reason I couldn´t finish watching this (Although I will later finish it in order to give it a fair rating). If the characters would have been played something similiar like in Pride an Prejudice then it would be more believable. I honestly don´t feel there is much chemistry between them at all. And the female lead is incredibly dumb, I find it hard to believe anyone would be interested in such a expressionless girl. The only reason I can come up with is because she looks fragile and easy to control, something that maybe the male lead found attractive since he maybe never met such a girl before.
My opinion: If someone wants to really get turned on you better go ahead and watch real porn. I considered this movie a waste of time.

Somehow I got lucky: I had a good time watching it, liked the movie very much, still do; watched many times in the theater and bought the DVD too. Didn't watch everything, though, e.g., often skipped the belt scene, didn't like the contract scene very much.

Well..if you put it in context...every woman Christian as been with as been a Sub..so they know what that entails..and they sign a contract agreement..I would assume these women don't know nor care why Christian is a Dom...so Ana is a whole new experience for Christian..he is trying to live the same kind of life as before, but finds it doesn't work...and what will he have to do to get her back..

Was it a hit standing on ts merits alone or because of the book being a best seller that piqued people's interest? That would be my reasoning on why it was a hit movie.

reply

I'd say it was probably a bit of both. But, I think the actors did a great job. E.L. James is no writer, but she had an idea the and know-how to run with it.

May I suggest "Fifty Shades of Black" my eFriend? It skewers the Grey franchise pretty thoroughly and even the books: at one point the Anna character begs to be beaten again instead of being read to from the book! Hilarious and very satisfying for men (and some women) who cannot abide this misogynist tripe.

5 minutes into it on HBO I came in here and gave it a one- trite and ego-driven. He's about as interesting as watching paint dry and she is the paint.

I wouldn't let that guy have coffee with me, much less get to his playroom. What a narcissistic creep. Please, because you have a six pack and some bucks. Don't call us, etc.

I did watch it to the end. It was like watching two blank pages flipping back and forth taking you to nothing and nowhere.

Imminently unwatchable. Something manipulative and smarmy about it that made you want to take a shower. and I have no problem with sexuality but just what this was trying to be- which is undetermined and unexplainable.

When the elevator doors closed- I took a breath and stepped back into a better world.
