Man, that was bad.

Just watched this on Netflix. I'm trying to think of any movie I've ever seen that was as bad as Fifty Shades of Grey.

The writing, the acting (James Dornan especially), the lack of chemistry between the two leads (they supposedly hate each other in real life), the misuse of additional characters, the waste of really talented actors in peripheral, meaningless roles...etc. etc.

What trash.

There's going to be two more sequels.

I just now finished watching it on my dvr. I read the first book (and I THINK the second one too) so I already knew what I was in store for. Ugh, this was just really not good. I can't believe I watched it all. My eyes are vomiting...

huh?

Google "Dakota Johnson James Dornan hate each other." There's a lot out there.

Hi Portrait,

A number of bloggers wrote about their supposed dislike of each other, but it was just as manufactured just as their supposed "romance' is. No professional journalist wrote that goop because it's just not true. They were two actors who simply didn't have chemistry in the first movie. That's largely the fault of the bland direction and the inability of the actors to overcome the issues with the weak script. Now the net is ablaze with stories of their great love for each other - whatever.

It's okay if they don't like each other but they could at least fake it for the screen. The chemistry wasn't there

reply

Chemistry needs a director's eye. Sam Taylor Johnson could create pretty pictures but isn't really a director. If you can stomach watching the film again, just check out the times the actors were physically apart, didn't look at each other or had the wrong body language. Neither actor was adept at directing themselves. The script sucked too another handicap.

reply

Yes, the script was very weak but it was adapted from fan fiction that I understand was very badly written. There wasn't much for the screenplay to work with.

Yikes, strong words there!

Thank you for paying such close attention to my posts. I am one of the few people here whose posts are worthy of that kind of attention.

I am also one of the few posters here who can change and grow. Dornan is a subtle actor and I've come to understand the artistry behind his subtlety. I've also come to understand the skill of Sam Taylor-Johnson and Kelly Marcel, especially in light of the lack of skill of the men who followed them in their positions.

Since you seem obsessed with me, feel free to read my imdb reviews of both Fifty Shades of Grey and Fifty Shades Darker. I doubt you will appreciate my keen insights but at least your lips will get some exercise as you read. Good luck.

Don't tell me you love animals if that's cow muscle on your plate.

Your signature is SO arrogant, closed-minded and utter trash. Sorry, had to say it...

I think this is another reason we won't see her go, say, the Meyer route and get into film production. By most accounts, the people who worked with her on the films hated the experience and didn't want to deal with her ego or grand-standing. Sam Taylor-Johnson and Kelly Marcel were vocal about her constantly wanting to get her own way. Hollywood won't play by those games if she has nothing to offer after this.

Yep. I don't think it will work. I died laughing at Sam Taylor-Johnson ready to rumble with her ass. It did not sound like a great experience was had by anyone. When the audience scores came back on #1 she flipped her shit and blamed Taylor-Johnson for not doing what she told her to do while filming. She's an asshole.

And it explains Jamie Dordan alot now. He loved Sam and was disappointed she was not returning.

She kept trying to tell people that they didn't know best. The only one who could write it best was herself, so she got the scriptwriter sacked. Then she couldn't deliver a script, so she 'hired' her husband to do it. No else is as good at everything as she is and it hurts her so much that others aren't interested in working with glorious her.
