Endless Hollywood regurgitation
Keep eating your vomit and regurgitating it, Hollywood. We won't notice.

shareTargeted at the new younger generation that is less likely to watch older movies.
shareDoesn't the younger generation deserve something fresh and original?
shareLike what exactly? When was the last time anything truly original appeared in any media?
shareThere is a lot of original film coming out, though not necessarily in Hollywood. But the fact there is so little here should be all the more reason for people to attempt it. If not an original story someone could dramatize a book that has not yet been made into a film, something for "the younger generation" so they don't have to see endless retreads of films from when I was a kid.
shareTargeted to a younger generation who is still not old enough to watch the original.
shareReheating leftovers is cheaper than cooking new. Hollywood will keep doing it as long as the used food gets eaten.
shareThe funny thing is they still try to make big budget blockbusters out of remakes. I guess they did save money on the original concept, but otherwise they don't try to very hard to cut back. The great films of the 70s that became huge hits had absolutely teeny budgets compared with now. The difference is that they were taking a risk on new ideas. Now that risk has been taken out of the equation, but there is still the risk of bad writing, acting, direction, effects, etc. that can make for a spectacular flop. I'd rather fund a bunch of smaller films from talented young directors in the calculation that some of them will be big hits.
shareThe thing about the 70's was that the old studio system was collapsing, that made the studio executives be willing to take a chance on new people. So we got a lot of small, original films. But on the dark side, these new people turned into the new studio system. Once the industry saw the raging success of Star Wars, Jaws etc, they started cranking out popcorn extravaganzas. And that worked for awhile.
Now it doesn't and we will see a collapse sometime soon. Hopefully sooner than later.
Too true. There will be a big blowup and then life will start again. Will be interesting to see what happens. Denmark (and other countries) are doing a good job making "small" original films so cinema is actually still flourishing.
