1981 'Endless Love' and 2014 'Endless Love.'

The two movies are based on the same book, and the main characters have the same names, except David's family name was changed, I have no idea why.

The 1981 version famously starred Brooke Shields as a 15-yr-old falling in love with a graduating senior. It also famously has the scene where Jade's mom is watching David and Jade, both naked in her living room late at night, doing what naked teens do together, and watching with a smile instead of interrupting.

The 1981 version is much darker, with David being played as a more troubled young man, while David in the 2014 version is played as a very normal, well-adjusted young man. Trying to talk the kids out of going to the zoo, making sure Jade didn't get caught, and at the end comforting Jade's dad and reassuring him that things could be OK if he wanted them to be.

I was curious enough about the comparisons that I watched both of them in successive viewings. But it is important to keep in mind as each ends, the title "Endless Love" is there for a reason!

Oh, you should try and see it.

I have not watched this version yet, but I've always loved the original. Even if you dislike it, you can't deny Brooke Shields' beauty when she was that age. Her face was almost like an amazing piece of art. You can't stop admiring it.

I've seen both versions. The 2014 version is better.

The 2014 version bears little resemblance to the book, which I read in the '80s

The book is dark, very dark. There is none of the 'rich girl, poor boy' aspect. They are more or less equals, and the guy is very unhealthily obsessed in the book, and the girl isn't such a princess.

In the book, the guy starts the fire on purpose. It isn't an accident like in the 2014 movie. And I don't remember a deceased brother in the book or the 1981 movie. For 2 examples.
