So does Vincent Cassel play Gaston as well?

Just saw the trailer and it looks absolutely stunning. One thing I don't get though: we see the Beast and Vincent Cassel in his human form: does this mean he also plays Gaston or is the human form just a fhaslback/flash forward to before/after the curse?

This is not based on the Disney film, this movie is more based on the original French fairytale. Which in Beauty had dreams every night of the Beast in his human form(?). You can look it up on Wikipedia or Google for a synopsis of the fairytale.

Well, in the 1946 Cocteau version, there was a vain and arrogant suitor for Beauty who was played by the same actor as the Beast. So even without the Disney movie, there's a precedent.

I think the suitor/Gaston character is the one in the trailer who is on horseback says for them to go the castle of the beast.

But yeah I love the Disney version but it's nice to see one closer to the original story.

I thought so, too, at first, but this version of the trailer http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ElsIwFBkhEk makes me think that scenes with the prince in his human form take place before his transformation. In particular, there's a woman who he apparently loved and lost.

Thoses scenes are flashbacks, there is no suitor for Belle in the movie.

There isn't a suitor in this movie, but there is a bastard presumptuous man, played by Eduardo Noriega (Perducas) who actually has the role of villain in the story.
