Disney seems to be the only ones that make fairy tales properly?
It's odd how almost every non-Disney live action fairy tale turns out to be less than memorable. My reasoning for being so perplexed by this is that these movies have big budgets, big name actors, and the basic stories are simple which leaves a lot of room for creative interpretation, but... nope. I'm starting to get the feeling that either A) the movie industry isn't actually inhabited by creative people, or B) directors and studios see big money and hurry to make movies they have no interest in, or C) Hollywood doesn't know what a good movie is, but they make movies them anyway (I'm actually a little suspicious about this one).
Poorly made live action fairy tales that come to mind are Red Riding Hood, Snow White and the Huntsman, Jack the Giant Slayer, and "Pan" (that Peter Pan thing that came out a couple of years ago). Some of these movies were ok, but others (like Pan) were just uninspired and seemed completely devoid of any vision.
And lastly, it adds to the oddity of it all when we see Disney do it so well practically everytime. Even the live action remakes that aren't their best are still spectacular in comparison. So, any thoughts about this?
