would a therapist really ever pour her/his heart out to a patient like the therapist does in this movie? crying on her patient's shoulder because her girlfriend left her. That seems a bit much.

No, way out of line. She would have had her own therapist for that.
I guess I understand the motivation for including the incident in the movie, but it struck a wrong chord that this particular therapist would suddenly have such an unprofessional lapse.
"Sometimes you just need a hug" doesn't cut it.
