would automatically be better if they had cut out some Alfrid scenes

I liked the movie but it automatically would raise from 7 to 9 for me if they had cut out some Alfrid scenes and left in some other scenes that were cut (Thorin's funeral, the dwarves getting their moments in battle, Bilbo planting the acorn, Gandalf scolding Thranduil for only being interested in jewels, Bilbo and Bofur's conversation etc)

reply

It would help, but those scenes weren't the only problem.

Agreed, Alfred was notably terrible, managing to be SO awful that he stood out in a sea of awful!

I don't understand why he even existed, or why he had such a major role. Why get a good actor to play the Master of Laketown, and then kill him off and give his role to a bad actor?

Yes, he's got more screen time than any other dwarf.

I don't understand why he was even in the movie.

for me that's all was needed

The whole thing about Gandalf scolding Thranduil was beyond stupid. Gandalf should be busy saving Middle Earth not playing meddling fool to Thranduil's personal problems like they were best friends or something. It contradictory to the scene in which Thranduil was all skeptical of the wizard. It made zero sense.

Indeed the film would be much better without Alfrid, but there were more problems that held it from greatness.

The fights of Thorin-Azog and Legolas-Bolg went on forever, the big battle in general was bland and less than exciting, Tauriel crying for love was stupid, Beorn was featured for about 30 seconds and the defying stunts of Legolas were cringe-worthy to say the least.
