So as I'm struggling to finish this mess the thought occurred to me--why do the flu wave after the EMP wave? Bird flu can be spread person-to-person, as is seen in the film even, so wouldn't you want as much person-to-person contact as possible? Why cut off all means of transportation before dishing out the killer virus? Wouldn't you want people traveling and spreading it as much as possible? Like it was the aliens relied on birds to spread it in isolated pockets of humans. That makes no sense.

I can see your point, but by cutting off all electrical devices and technology, people had to basically live like humans did 100-150 years ago. People couldn't communicate the same way and with the same frequency, and with no electricity modern hospitals and medicine would be severely handicapped. And no way to make new meds or transport them. And just he disorientation of losing all that tech would really weaken our society, I think. Plus, wasn't it actually spread by the birds, who can fly around anywhere?
