Not that any of you Millennials would know who Serling was but suffice to say this junk would even make it to his trash can.

I wouldn't be too hard on it...it's based on an YA novel meant for the teen/tween crowd. As someone in middle age who read it, it's not bad, pretty exciting in some places...but it definitely has its YA moments and is very predictable in that regard. Yes it's definitely not Rod Serling, but not a lot of sci if storytelling in the past 20 years or so has been...at least not the stories that get made into big CGI monstrosities....

I don't get the connection? Why reference Serling and compare his works to this? I mean, more than just about anything else written in the fantasy/sci-fi genre today?

I do agree he was a legend, there's no doubt about that.
