looks promising but strange?

No Spoilers.
Since BETWEEN THE LINES was one of my favourite programmes ever I like the idea of this.
(Anybody reading this who thinks THE WIRE or MAD MEN are great tv and have never seen BETWEEN THE LINES should try and see some episodes)
This looks good but I don't get the setting.
I hate it when cops shows are set in no particular place (eg TOUCH OF FROST).
Is this meant to be the midlands somewhere or London? why not set it in a real place? BETWEEN THE LINES was 100 per cent THE MET,of course the corruption angle won't make it popular with police forces but people are going to think it is WEST MIDLANDS police if it is filmed in that area.

Nice to see another Between The Lines fan. The best drama the BBC produced in the 90's, imo.

Line Of Duty looks promising. Good cast, well paced. Lennie James is pretty much always excellent. Gina McKee looks fantastic.

Completely agree with you about the third series of Between The Lines. It was so bad it was almost unwatchable. Such a terrible disapointment.

I think the main problem was that there were a variety of different writers contributing to the series. It lacked the originality and quality of series 1 and 2. All concerned looked like they were going through the motions.

I don't expect Line of Duty to reach the heights of Between The Lines 1 and 2 but it's a refreshing change to see the Beeb investing in quality drama.

I agree, it's confusing. In the Radio Times article, it's mentioned twice that it's set in London, but the locations and some of the accents suggest otherwise.

Between the lines was brilliant.

This is not there but looks promising in its own right.

Its that man again!!

I don't watch a great deal of British TV drama but tuned into this because I thought Jed Mercurio's Bodies was outstanding. My verdict on Line of Truth is that it is another excellent production and am thoroughly enjoying it. .

I think that this reference by the UBER PC Chief Constable not taking any risks at any stage that might affect his job and or promotion was about him [GATES] being from the southern hemisphere. I don't see the Police as referring to the MET in such a way. I feel this was a disguised reference to not wishing to be seen to be racist. This must have been the tiptoeing of late regarding that Senior Muslim officer and all the pies he had his fingers in. You cant touch me attitude.

On the racist note I felt that Dunbar [hastings] had one of the best pieces of dialogue for a long time in which he referred to his being a catholic RUC officer which is was as equal as being black in his mind. He and our hero were discussing the possibility of some jealousy regarding DCI Gates' being black.
