Why is people in Britain so fond of Danish crime shows ...

... when they themselves make top quality shows like this one?

I'm Danish, and I'm not trying to bash Danish TV-shows like "The Killing". It's just that we hear a lot in Denmark about the success of "The Killing" in the UK, but in my opinion a show like "Line of duty" is far superior when it comes to plot, character development and suspense. And in general the British makes a lot of very fine shows. So I was just wondering what you, the British, find so appealing about the Danish shows. if I war from the UK, I wouldn't be too impressed.

I have never watched THE KILLING,but I did like BORGEN and like the Swedish cop shows I have seen.

I think British people like the different settings and look of the dramas from DENMARK and SWEDEN,lots of British people visit Spain and France but a lot fewer ever visit Scandanavia,it seems exotic to us,even the cops are often liberal or ex radicals trying to work out what is wrong with the world.

These Danish shows are shown on minority channels such as BBC4 and gets decent figures for those channels but very low for ITV or even BBC2 but the media fall over themselves.

Its that man again!!

I don't know what the actual viewing figures are,it would be interesting to find out,but I do know that the Wallander books have sold well in the UK and the dvds of the nordic crime series are in every shop I go into so I don't think the whole nordic crime thing is some sort of elitist Guardian reader plot.

Of course they will get less viewers than SCOTT AND BAILLIE or some other english language police drama but I do like the nordic ones and think they are good tv.

Give 'Line of Duty' subtitles and it's there!
