Huh????????

The most confusing ending of any series ever!!!!!!!!

reply

Yeah I agree but how could Dot get away!

reply

Hey, Dot's gotta get away! We need our favorite villain for Series 3. :-))))

Dot gets away because he's had Tommy and Akers killed, who knew Dot was the mastermind bent copper between the underworld and the cops. Well, Morton knows, but they have a mutually assured destruction pact. So Dot's safe from Morton at the moment.

But at the end when Morton is being handed money by the reporter he informs to, we could be left with the question in our minds--is Morton spilling the beans on Dot now? Hm.

Denton never knew it was Dot. So she couldn't give him up to AC12 to save her own skin when she was fingered for the whole thing. She played a role, but was not technically guilty of conspiracy to murder. She was allowing herself to be paid simply to lead the motorcade and let Tommy be taken away to hush him up. Denton's major motivation was to get Carly free of Tommy's abusive trap.

A transgression Denton thought would be minor on her part, albeit corrupt, went VERY VERY bad on her when she got cold feet that night in the motorcade and tried to veer from the route. That got the bad guys spooked and they went for a scorched earth (and scorched copper and witness) policy and all those people died in the ensuing clean up Dot had to order.

Dot asked Akers in the car if Denton had inquired about who was running the handover of Tommy. Akers said no. So Dot left Denton alive to take the rap for everything. She couldn't finger him. She did not know he was running things.

Having a copper go down was the answer to Dot's cover up. And he got what he wanted.

And now Dot's feet are under the table full time at AC12 starting next season!

Message: The bad guys often get away with it. And those who are committing lesser transgressions get the maximum punishment. Oh, and also, the boyos/girlies who are charged with making sure the bad coppers get caught are so flawed and misbehaving themselves, they don't get the job done!

Have any of you contributors seen Soul Boy. If so well I just have to say I half expect Dot and Steve to start trading Northern Soul records and then to learn that Steve is involved in all the corruption! For those who have not seen it Martyn and Craig are in the film set in the mid 70's and Craig Parkinson playing a no good in that too! Anyone seen him in anything where he plays a good guy :).

Don't be late, don't hesitate, this dream can pass just as fast as lightning.

reply

Thanks for that. I'd not heard of it, but will look it up.

Great cast! Am a sucker for any northern drama, me.

It helps if you have seen Season One.

At the very end of the final episode, Dot Cottan (aka "The Caddy") is seen meeting with Tommy at the Golf Club.

Fast forward to the start of Season Two, and we now know Tommy has decided to become an informant.

It's pretty evident that Tommy's bargaining chip is to expose the corruption in the Vice Squad - Dot's little "evil empire".

This is why Dot concocts a plan to get Tommy killed before he can testify.
