One last question

This may already have been asked and answered earlier. If so, please forgive me.

If the purpose of the ambush was to kill Tommy and the ambushers were using heavy-duty firearms and had already shot two policemen, why did they not shoot Tommy and instead leave it to a fire to hopefully finish him off?

making a statement...quite normal good people that you can deal with shoot people and stitch them with automatic weapons...but only real animals burn people alive.

sort of vaguely why did the 'Twins" cartel assassins in Breaking Bad use tree axes...whoa, scary.I guess people are also more horrified by big lumps of cold steel.

the REAL question, in many such shows, is why a bunch of mob assassins, ruthless and professional enough to attack a car convoy containing several police and a protected witness and machine-gun and burn people, then leave the slightest possibility that the main target is still fking alive after all that, necessitating a second complex and hazardous operation killing them and yet another police officer in a hospital ward..

I mean, the theatrics with the gasoline is fine, but to my mind, you just first make absolutely bloody sure that the main point of the entire thing while completely vulnerable and defenseless before you, is clearly irrevocably 100% bloody deceased...not just a few light GSWs and some third degree burns , and, ok, that oughta do it, guys, let's hop it..
