So disappointing
I understand this is a kids' film, but it has that one aspect of certain kids' films that makes me also despise Michael Bay for his films. Both focus on the target demographic, using lowest common denominator elements to make it popular with that segment. They insult the audience and it unfortunately it's what works.
Who cares if adults don't like Minions? I do, because such an attitude means people will continue to create these movies kids won't be able to grow up with. By that I mean these movies should be timeless. A kid should be able to come back to these movies as adults and get something they missed. I don't mean a movie filled with innuendo (Shrek), but a movie with elements you would never see as a child.
What really pains me about this is that this had potential to be such a movie. It could have been unusual but incredibly creative. Instead it relied on the basest of children's humor. This is a low point in quality for the Despicable Me franchise, which I enjoyed (I had to come around on DM2). I realy hope they do right by their audience for DM3 and don't take the box office of Minions as a sign of where to place focus.
If you're happy and you know it, go sit in the corner and think about your life.
