The queen doesn't rule England.

england has been a democracy for longer than USA had governed itself.

Yes, that was truly the most unrealistic thing in this movie.

Not me, but check it out: http://www.redbubble.com/people/nesling/

Its not about realism. I cant put a number on how many times Ive seen American TV shows and movies state this.
Do Americans actually believe that the Queen rules England?

reply

Yes, some actually do and some actually long for a return to ruling families given how they keep pushing to vote for the same families back into the Whitehouse.

WOW. England was a democracy when America first went to war for independence. American TV shows make them all look pretty ignorant of the world outside their borders.

The colonies went to war with England so they could keep slavery.
Slavery was going to be ending by 1820 because of the Somerset v Stewart decision which scared the southern colonies and aligned them with the northern to rebel and keep their lifestyle of enslaving Africans.

Well all the other countries think they know everything about America so it kind of evens out.

Really? More unrealistic than VillainCon or yellow pill shaped creatures?

Yes, that was truly the most unrealistic thing in this movie.

Really? Not the fact that Minions have been around since the Dawn of Time or the fact that they are small, yellow creatures?

I'll just stand over here being happy

Of course the Queen rules England. She is its sovereign and head of state.
Of course, she does so within the context of established constitutional limits and the representative parliamentary democracy that exists. Parliament is ultimately sovereign and has replaced or skipped unsuitable sovereigns in the past - and could do so now. In fact, they changed the rules of succession not that long ago.
While that was slightly irksome, I was more annoyed that the movie suggested that the consort of a queen regnant would be the King. Silly movie!

reply

She sure rules in the movie though! Funniest character of all, IMO.

reply

Let's be honest...this movie didn't put much thought into anything. Not even its comedy.

reply

To be fair she rules Britain not just England, really annoying for a Scottish guy like myself lol
