Who Else......

Who else when they were watching this was secretly hoping they would choose to stay and live their life together on the island, like Brooke and Christopher's Emmaline and Richard did?? I was almost disappointed when they got rescued-lol!! ;-)

I was a bit disappointed too. I think after few breakdowns Emma would have accepted her new life. I wish she wasn't so aloof with him after the rescue. You'd think they would have been more attached to each other. I wish they had more time on the island, too. He should've said he loved her before they were rescued. I also think she definitely should have been pregnant. That long with as much unprotected sex as the movie implied would have been realistic. I did like the movie though.

In the Brooke Shield's version they left on a boat at the end. The child ate some of the red berries so they ate some too. A few minutes later a huge ship found them and they were rescued, we don't know what happened after that.

True-I was actually referring to the scene after they've been playing in the mud,and little Paddy sees the boat, but they both realize without saying a word that the island is their home, and don't do anything to make the ship see them. :-)

They didn't leave on purpose. Emmaline and the baby were in the boat and lost the oar. Then Richard swam out to get them but a shark started swimming around them. So they drifted out to sea.

There's a huge difference though between the characters who were raised on the island and only know that way of life but were expected to want civilization, and those characters who were raised in civilization, lived the island lifestyle for a few months but always wanted to go back to civilization.

Well said Star. I always wanted them to be rescued. Also, in the 1991 movie, they had a ship ready to take them back to civilization and chose to stay on the island. That version started out where the 1980 movie ended. They were adrift and a ship found them, but by then Brooke and Chriss were dead, but the two year old was still alive.

I know. But don't you wonder how Emmeline and Richard were able to raise an infant on their island in the 1980 version-they never actually delved into those details too much. But yeah,I think it would have made the storyline a bit more juicy if Emma had gotten pregnant on the island-but not been rescued until she was well into her third trimester. If she had come home with a pregnant belly, people definitely would have been shocked and talking-would have carried the rest of the movie in a whole other direction. :-)
