1. we have coast guard therefore t.t police wouldn't be stoping a boat, it would be a joint effort or coast guard alone. 2. when i heard the teacher say limited resources I just had to laugh 3. I have no idea what hotel that was....Im beginning to wonder if it wasn't a tobago hotel 4. our boat parties aren't quite like that...for one, there would be soca especially if it's supposed to be carnival time
ETA: Just read somewhere it was actually filmed in puerto rico which now makes totallll sense...cause nothing in this movie look trini
I take it you are from Trinidad? The hotel could have been filmed in Hawaii or in Los Angeles (please forgive spelling). I also read about filming in Puerto Rico but those articles were from prior to filming. Everything from filming including photos says they were in Hawaii for the beach scenes, so I guess they changed plans for whatever reason and wound up filming in Hawaii. Regarding your Coast Guard, in the U.S. we have U.S.Coast Guard, as well as numerous local law enforcement agencies which have marine units as well as some of our state police departments or separate state agencies. For example, if you were on waters of the Chesapeake Bay near Baltimore, you could have a USCG vessel approach to board, or a Baltimore City Police Dept boat, or a Maryland Dept. of Natural Resources boat. Any one of these or combination would be a possibility, so what it is there, I'd have no idea. I suspected it would more likely be a Coast Guard boat, but it's not supposed to be a documentary, so I'm ok giving them some leeway. Regarding limited resources, apparently some Trinidad citizens were offended. I'm sure the writers meant no insult. Remember, they needed an excuse for why our characters couldn't be found, or the story won't work. This seemed convenient enough, especially considering that even in a large metropolitan area in the United States, we typically have very limited resources on the water. B.Co.P.D. typically has only one or two boats on the water at a time and only during peak boating times for example. While we can muster much more with combined agencies including aircraft, as I'm sure they could in Trinidad. Just remember, if they found them right away, we don't have our story. So I say give the writers some slack and allow for some artistic license. Just remember it's hard to make a fantasy story work if you try to keep everything too realistic. Now, I don't know what you mean by "soca". Could you explain?
soca, is one of our musical artforms, google machel montano or destra garcia, that's what you would hear at carnival, not the techno/pop that was on that boat. I'm all for creative license, but it's just a pet peeve to see so much wrongful info in one movie... because some peopel will actually watch the movie, believe that's trinidad and believe those things.
with regards to the coast guard, people have gotten lost at sea in trinidad, but the area in which (with accordance to the story) the party was held, they'd have been found in a matter of days, we have a very active boating side complete with out CG head quarters on that side.
Thanks for clarifying about the music. I guess they picked music they felt would appeal to their core target audience. I know what you mean about how unrealistic details can get annoying. I get like that when I watch most TV police shows. But then I remind myself that if it were more realistic, not so many viewers would watch it either. I never bought the premise they would be stuck there that long either, but like I said, I have to pretend or the story won't work.
