Ugh ok I know the original story line was like 150 years before this movie but I wish they could have used Christopher Atkins cameo in a way that tied him to his role as Richard in the original BL, like have him be the great grandson of his character in BL 1. Of course, I also wish i could be brooke shields and be stuck on a desert island eternally with 20 y/o Christopher Atkins but I guess that can't happen soo...

I'm pretty sure that they wrote the script without thinking whether they could hire any of the original actors. But even then, what you said wouldn't make sense because the ending of RETURN TO THE BLUE LAGOON makes it clear that RICHARD JR. & LILY will stay in the island forever.
