It comes back to the fact that some people's idea of "gay films" is films that are completely inaccessible to straight people or non-gays. It doesn't occur to people like this that a straight male with bisexual tendencies might actually RELATE to a gay woman with bisexual tendencies because all human beings have SOME THINGS in common. No, the only reason a straight guy would watch a movie like this, according to these idiots, is because Adele and Lea give him a boner. Well, so does Rooney Mara (costar of "Carol") truth be told, but that's really beside the point. If being sexually attracted to someone precludes you from relating to them as a human being, then gays and lesbians shouldn't be able to relate to EACH OTHER.
"Carol" is a more STEREOTYPICAL gay movie and I'm sure it also appeals more the "gay community" for that reason, but that doesn't really make it a BETTER movie. "Carol" certainly isn't a bad movie, but sometimes these things are just much more about gender/sexual politics than artistic appreciation.
