So what does the ending mean?

When I first watched it (ok I finished watching it 20 minutes ago and immediately came on here) I was so sad and bawling my eyes out because I don't know if Adele will ever be freaking happy. Even after all that time she's still hung up on Emma (who I think will always have a soft spot for Adele but she's moved on), and her walking away at the end there just made it seem like there would never be any change, especially cause she was wearing the colour blue; sadness.

And why was she so harsh teaching the first graders? Is she eventually going to resent her job? Will she ever do something that will make her happy?

So these were my first thoughts that made the ending seem heartbreaking, then after reading some comments on here I guess her walking away at the end could also be seen as her finally having closure with Emma, and realizing she didn't fit it with Emma and her friends and all that art stuff (she never looked comfortable during the galas or art shows anyways). So possibly that realization will make Adele finally figure out herself, and I like that conclusion a lot better.

But honesty, it's really left up in the air. I wish they had made the second part, anyone know why they didn't?
