S2 Accused Woman Not Likeable

Alice Merren (the woman the ladies are trying to absolve) is so unlikeable! She makes this season not as interesting. In the first season you can tell what drove the women to find the serial killer, but this season I don't care whether this woman hangs or not. She doesn't even want help and is very rude to those who are trying to help.

True, but she was still innocent.

Well, i don't know about you..but were i due a brief appointment with Albert Pierrepoint shortly after breakfast, and my designated dangling day was looming, i'm DON'T think I'D be in the sunniest of moods either!

reply

Good old Pierrepoint! ha

I see he had the screws doing his measuring and weighing of her for him--so he could provide the perfect noose and drop weights.

That was an eerie scene....

I sense that the OP wrote this after only seeing one episode. I didn't fault Alice for wanting Jean and the others to back off in the first episode. It was clear that she was under a huge strain, and that there was something she felt she couldn't reveal. Plus, Hattie Morahan's performance made her seem intelligent and deep.

I since came to really like her as a character, and she's kept me from minding Susan's absence. I think the writer's did a good job of setting Susan up that it was time for her to move on.

It was understandable why she was cold and uncooperative. Her old colleagues still gave it a shot to help her. They definitely thought she was worth saving.

I thought it was a lovely, nuanced performance, and then I realized later that it was Hattie who is a good actress. But she was as nice as all the other Bletchley girls after she realized she wasn't covering anything up after all.
