What did Malcolm mean by "I was waiting for you". He recited some letter "Dear Julie, what absolutely super news about the job. I shall be coming down to London and can't wait to hear all the details."
So did Susan write that letter to Julie years ago and did Malcolm know Susan since the war?
I'm not sure I understand how long Malcolm knew about Susan and was setting up their meeting.
The postcard was from Julie's father in 1944 and the postcode indicated that they had a vacation cottage in the Cotswolds (where Malcolm later committed his first murder). Julie's personnel file had the exact address of their Cotswolds cottage, which was where Malcolm was later hiding out waiting for Susan. He was waiting for Susan because she had figured out his identity -- and she also reminded him of Julie who was an intelligence worker as well.
The entire episode is on YouTube if you want to review it:
Youtube may not but those charged with protecting their copyright sure do. They also do regular google and other searches to see what is being said about it.
There are also self righteous types with no connection to the copyright who report such things to Youtube.
Anyway it's too late. I checked after I posted and they've already deleted it from Youtube. Let's hope some creative person can re-upload it with a better disguised title. A whole bunch of my bookmarked favorite British shows and movies were deleted recently.
I was sure there was a Youtube exception to the the copyright laws. LOL! There should be.
Are you out of your mind? The clip has NOT been deleted, nor does ITV patrol the internet to see who is talking about clips. This message board is not even findable via internet searches. And no one on message boards "reports" these things to YouTube. .
Crowley worked under Cavendish in a secret war effort specializing in deceit and miscommunication: fake maps and documents, etc. Crowley planted all that stuff about Julie Oakwood in order to lure Susan to him. He wrote the postcard and made it look the father had written years ago.
Are you sure he planted ALL that stuff? All his wartime drawings, for instance? This was all a setup from the time he saw them all gathered outside the train?
I did find the ending rather pat. It was almost Ex Deus Machina. It seemed as if it was slapped together within a few minutes. Perhaps it was not entirely the fault of the writers. If they produce rubbish, what can the production team do to improve it?
Cavendish's death should of been examined much closer. Susan has no proof that his death was a homicide. Actually, I suppose that in that situation, she would not of been completely confident with her ability as a crime solver (as opposed to her ability as a code breaker), so she would not have thought of examining the body (and would of had trouble defending her claims).
BTW, That tick that Susan has was interesting (and a bit annoying). That tight smile that she would make after a statement ...Is that some sort of British trait? it seemed a bit arrogant to me. I guess that it was a reflex mechanism to defend her self esteem. After she was vindicated, it was justified (of course).
I agree the ending was too quick in Season 1. The series would have been better off with one more episode to end it's story arc and clean up threads.
The tick is just that...a tick. Consider that Susan spends most of her time trying to hide or downplay her intelligence to make others feel comfortable (especially her husband). The nervous smile is meant to defuse the tension she feels when she reveals just how much she knows.
As Susan gains more agency in her life (due to her private detective work), it is bound to cause trouble in her marriage.
