Frustrating...in a good way!

I just finished watching season 1 of The Bletchley Circle. While watching this show I was frustrated, but I was frustrated in a good way.

Firstly, I thought it dragged on a bit. The "dragging" feeling encouraged patience. After watching so many contemporary whodunits that are fast-paced and rely on 21st century technology, it was definitely a change of pace to watch a TV show in which people had to discuss, track down people, coerce those people into giving them paper records, analyze the paper records, graph and track data by hand, and wait until specified meeting dates and times until they could discuss, analyze, and plan.

Secondly, I wanted the women to be more confident and assertive. The characters themselves wanted to be more confident and assertive. Over time, they became much more so. They became downright heroic. They themselves were frustrated by their post-war constraints and their descent into second-class status.

So when I say that I was frustrated in a good way, I mean that I feel like my frustration as a viewer mimicked the frustration of the characters. Although with regard to pacing, my frustration was due to living a different paced-life while their frustration was due to racing against the clock in life and death situations.
