Nicholas and Desdemona supposed to be brother and sister but don't look anything alike.

Yes, he clearly said "and based on your eyes, here we have your half brother", after he fall out of the chimney and looked up. You can see both jade green eyes just before that. One of the view competent camera angle decisions.

Siblings don't always look anything alike. My wife doesn't resemble her sisters (for which I am thankful).

Looking like mother is more common as looking like the father ;)
