New viewer, couple of questions (spoilers for previous seasons)

I'm fairly new to the show, I started watching in mid-season 4 and was hooked, and I've gone back to watch the earlier episodes and I'm at season 3 now. I have a couple of questions.

1) Did the actress playing Shay want to leave the show or did they write her off? I loved that character and I was disappointed they killed her instead of having her leave to go work elsewhere. I saw she's on a show called Lucifer right now, but I didn't know if that was the reason or just happened at the same time.

2) Did Matt's potentially fatal head injury (the doctor said another blow to the head could kill him) just go away?

thanks!

reply

Shay was killed off just to give Severide and Dawson a dramatic grieving storyline and that's all. The actress didn't want to leave the show but at least she found good work elsewhere.

Casey's head injury was just forgotten about. You'll see in the episode with the hospital bombing that he was blown flat on his back on the asphalt but his head was somehow just dandy.

If you have any other questions we are here for you!

Thank you!

Are you sure about the actress not wanting too leave? I remember reading several articles from around that time period that she had wanted to leave because she hated the cold of Chicago.

reply

Correct.

reply

They were just speculation based on Lauren one time complaining about the cold.

reply

The whole hating the cold thing was a joke that somehow morphed into the reason she left.

As the article linked below shows, it wasn't her choice to leave, and the hating the cold comment was simply her being funny.

I guess this is a good example of "Chinese whispers" at work. :)

Hello there!

funny how no matter how many times this has been disproved there are people on here that still believe it... even if they've commented on several threads asking about it.

reply

1. contrary to what some people claim...it was NOT Lauren German's own decision to leave, it was the producers decision to get rid of Shay's character and Lauren herself actually was surprised when they decided to kill her character off. It was a huge mistake of the producers' part to kill off Shay...her death was one of the main reasons why the writing and overall quality of this show has since gone downhill.

2. yeah they pretty much just swept Casey's head injury under the rug after a few eps...

reply

I started at the beginning of S3(post-Shay), then went back to start from the beginning. And Shay was definitely the best thing about Chicago Fire, at least storyline-wise. Second was Peter Mills imo. Both were written out of the show. Both dumb decisions.

reply

Agreed. Both bad miscalculations by producers of the show.
