not gonna lie, i remember when i first saw promos for this show back in

2012. i thought it would only have one season. i just started watching it and it is good. i started with this season, but not the first episode. i started watching this like two or three weeks ago. so i don't know if the previous seasons are crap or good.

compared to the first 2 seasons, the last few seasons have been pretty lackluster in comparison...this show used to be at its best in the first 2 seasons, but the writing has seen gone downhill from S3 onwards. I definitely recommend you start from the beginning because S1 & S2 are so much better.

I would suggest watching Season 1 and Season 2. You'll notice the considerable dip in quality since those first few seasons. The first 2 seasons were quality. The show was at its best when it used the ensemble formula for all the characters. That meant certain characters didn't dominate most of the storylines. And everyone got fair screen time. Not the case the last 3 seasons.

Season 1 is best followed by season 2....sort of downhill from there.

Magemaximus, you're probably noticing a theme here with the comments. All I will add is that I think S5 has turned things around a bit. Casey just needs to share a bit of the spotlight with Severide.

Season 5 has pretty much followed the script of the past 2 seasons. Perfect Gabby being protected and getting EVERYTHING she wants. And Casey once again being her little lap dog. He does everything for her. He makes concessions for her. It's just more of the same. Pretty sad. Casey has completely lost his edge.

The first 2 seasons were really good. Tense, exciting, character building stuff.

It all went downhill fast from about midway season 3 into 4 and beyond with no sign of it regaining its past glory. At the time the show went sh!t was also when all the spin offs and crossovers started cropping up and the focus was lost completely.

I've given up on the show because the sight of Dawson actually makes me rage.
