Has no one heard of general anaesthesia???

So he can't have spinal anaesthesia because of the bruising, but what about general anaesthesia??? Nooooooo, he's gotta be in a massive amount of pain to show us he's a tough manly man!!! Gimme a break!!!

reply

They could at least do it under conscious sedation. He would be semi-aware but not remember after.

reply

EXACTLY!!!!!!!!! The "writers" must think we're all morons!!!

I followed Jesse Spencer to Chicago Fire from House... Why hire someone from a show like House only to write such horrible crap?!

reply

I am pretty sure there was a very similar story on House and if I remember correctly it was Jesse Spencer's character (Dr. Chase) who performed the procedure on a patient without any kind of anesthesia. I can't remember the details besides that the donor was a younger boy and he was donating to his brother. I can't remember why he couldn't have the spinal or anesthesia.

I have no idea why they couldn't give Kelly general anesthesia. I am pretty sure that is a pretty common thing with this procedure.

That was Foreman you're thinking of. The boy couldn't have anaesthesia because he was recovering from serious illness and nearly dying. Foreman also did this without consent from the kid's parents.

reply

Oh yeah it was Foreman. Not sure why I thought it was Chase.

I think it was the episode after Foreman killed that girl that came in after suffering a transient ischaemic attack. A lot of Foreman feeling guilty, self-hating and House hating.

Even though they didn't mention it, I speculated that with the type of injury he had, they didn't want to take any chances of him having a bad reaction to it. Yeah, I know it was just a general, but everyone's different. For all we know, his medical history could say that his body reacts badly to general and local anesthesia. Not saying this is fact, since again, they didn't mention it, it's just speculation on my part.

I don't think more electricity is what this guy really needs. Just throwin' it out there.

reply

It's just more sloppy writing and hand-waving Jedi crap to get the scene they wanted.

reply

Except they had him on Dilaudid immediately after, so they could have at least gotten him nicely stoned on that for the procedure, no?

reply

Thank you!! I was shouting at the TV. General anesthesiology or gas should have been fine. I know he is injured but people get into serious accidents all the time and have various injuries.... and still they are put out for surgery. I know this is a serious and painful surgery, but that was dumb.

reply

We wouldn't have had that dramatic scream though.

reply

guy healed pretty quickly. you'd think like 2-3 days after falling out a second floor window he'd have bruising....... not really into gore and stuff, but a bruise would have added some degree of realism into the story line.

reply

We were very close to seeing his naked tush though 😄

But a bruise would have been nice indeed.

In reality, most of it would not have happened, period. She waited fourteen months for a bone marrow donor and one is found, right under her nose? And they NEVER would have met this early. It's a year that they have to wait. She would have known maybe that he was from the US, general information. But that is all. She also visited him in his hospital room. You have to remember that she has zero immune system. If I recall correctly, she wasn't even wearing a mask. Also, someone stuck a needle in his spine and he flinches not at all? So with all of this, it's not surprising that they kept up with the never-would-have-happened scenario.
