Isolation for bone marrow transplant

Such incredibly poor writing for the bone marrow transplant patient. She would have her immune system destroyed in preparation for the transplant, meaning reverse isolation. No visitors coming in her room and her not going out. Nurses fully gowned and masked.

And afterward the same thing. No visiting with people and KISSING them!!
Just ridiculous.

How long would that go on for? Could this have taken place after that time period?

reply

Probably a couple weeks of isolation before the transplant and a couple weeks more of it after.

I'm sure it's different for every patient, but it wouldn't be until her immune system began to recover, which typically can take 10-21 days or longer.

The following link has some information regarding transplants.

That entire episode was weird. Kelly had completely recovered from his injuries, so that led me to believe the scenes between him and the bone marrow recipient occurred weeks after the transplant. But Casey and Gabbi were acting as if Louie was taken from them the day before. The two story timelines seemed very out of sync which made it that much more confusing to watch.

It's the magic of tv. On death's door one minute, perfectly healthy ten minutes later.
